Kathmandu. Nepal Rastra Bank (NRB) has introduced a new banknote of Rs 1,000 denomination (Series 2025) from today. According to the Department of Currency Management, the original design of the new banknote and purple color has been retained.
According to the bank, the new note includes additional security features such as water stamps, color-changing security threads. The obverse of the note has a picture of Mount Everest, a waterprint of rhododendrons, a touch-recognizable Roman letter ‘M’ for the visually impaired, and a horizontal line. The 3.5 mm wide security thread has ‘NRB’ and ‘1000’ inscribed on it. It looks red when viewed and green when tilted.
Similarly, a picture of Bhagwati has also been included on the right side of Mount Everest. When the angle is changed, it appears from golden to green. The note has the signature of Governor Prof. Dr. Bishwanath Poudel. On the back, there are pictures of twin elephants ‘Ram’ and ‘Laxman’ born in the government elephant of Chitwan, seven rhododendrons representing all the seven provinces and the historical pillar of Lahachowk in Hanuman Dhoka.
The bank has urged the general public to use the notes with caution as they are the property of the nation.
