Kathmandu. A committee has been formed under the coordination of Mahesh Acharya, joint secretary at the Ministry of Finance, to hold talks with the microfinance victims. Finance Minister Dr Swarnim Wagle has formed a committee under the coordination of Mahesh Acharya, joint secretary at the Ministry of Finance, to hold dialogue with the agitating microfinance victims.
The talks committee comprises Joint-Secretary at the Ministry of Law, Justice and Parliamentary Affairs Binod Kumar Bhattarai, Joint Secretary at the Ministry of Home Affairs Suresh Panthi and Executive Director of Nepal Rastra Bank Ramu Poudel. Under-secretary at the Ministry of Finance Bolraj Acharya is the member secretary of the talk committee.
The first meeting of the committee is currently taking place at the Ministry of Finance. Finance Minister Wagle directed the committee to hold talks with the victims today itself. The microfinance victims had come to Kathmandu last week putting forth various demands.
Among the demands put forth by the victims, ending financial exploitation from microfinance institutions, providing cheap loans to farmers and returning the land lost through auction or waiver process, among others, the victims’ have put forth.
