Kathmandu. CPN-UML lawmaker Yashoda Kumari Baral has drawn the attention of the government to the security challenges and technical problems in the digital payment system. Participating in the discussion on the Payment and Settlement (First Amendment) Bill, 2083 in the House of Representatives on Wednesday, she shared her personal experience of missing Rs 21,900 from her e-Sewa account and questioned how safe the public money is.
Lawmaker Baral acknowledged that digital payment is an indispensable need of the hour and expressed his full support for its promotion.
However, he said that the government should not remain silent about the security of the system and the practical difficulties faced by the consumers. She shared her personal experience of missing Rs 21,900 from her e-Sewa account and questioned how safe the money of the public is.
According to MP Baral, the server problem seen in inter-banking transactions and the situation of payment being ‘waiting’ for three days have hit the service recipients. Although he welcomes the entry of foreign digital payment companies, he argues that national security and data privacy should be ensured in such systems.
She urged the government to be clear about the pros and cons of such systems and make necessary policy arrangements to keep consumers’ money safe.
