Flood threat in Rasuwa, disruption of regular services and business operations of banks and financial institutions

Kathmandu. Regular services and transactions of banks and financial institutions have been disrupted following the floods in Rasuwa. Normal life in Rasuwa and surrounding districts has been affected due to the sudden flood in the Bhotekoshi River that enters Nepal from Tibet region of China.

With the increased risk of floods, the functioning of banks and financial institutions and other offices located along the river areas has also been affected.

Issuing a special notice on Wednesday morning, the District Administration Office, Dhading and Rasuwa said there was a high risk of disaster in the coastal areas due to flooding due to the rise in the water level in the river. It is suspected that heavy rains or glacial lake outbursts may have occurred on the Chinese side, but the exact cause of the floods is yet to be ascertained.

According to the National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Authority (NDRRMA) and Flood Forecasting Division, the flood in the Bhotekoshi River is likely to reach up to Muglin via the Trishuli River. The administration has instructed the workers engaged in fishing, sand extraction or other work on the banks of the river to immediately move to safer places. Similarly, the projects operating along the river banks, offices and the general public living there have been specially requested to adopt necessary precautions.

The administration has appealed to the locals to immediately inform the local people’s representatives, the nearest security agency or the District Emergency Work Operation Center if any disaster-related incident occurred or if there is any risk.

For emergency situations, one can contact Nepal Police’s hotline number 100}, Armed Police Force (APF) hotline 114, and District Emergency Operation Center (1234 or 010-521464}. The administration has warned not to go to the areas near the river until further notice and stay safe.
