Lumbini Bikas Bank auctions house for Rs 53 lakh, locals buy house

Kathmandu. Locals, civil society and local activists have brought the former homeowner to the house in Milan Chowk, Butwal, which was auctioned by Lumbini Bikas Bank. The house was auctioned by the bank for Rs 53 lakh, the locals, civil society and local campaigners brought the former homeowner.

The former landlord had taken a loan of Rs 48 lakh from the bank to run the printing press. The bank auctioned the house after it failed to pay Rs 58 lakh including the interest of the loan.

Locals have been found to have brought former house owners Durga Bahadur Poudel and Laxmi Basnet Poudel into the house accusing the bank of auctioning the house at a low price. It is learnt that Govinda Lamichhane, a resident of Surkhet, bought the house that was auctioned by the former house owner.

On the other hand, the bank has said that it has started the auction process after the loan was not repaid despite sending notices to the borrowers time and again.
