What is the fintech marketplace that the government is going to set up?

Kathmandu. The government is going to set up a ‘Fintech Marketplace’. Finance Minister Dr. Swarnim Wagle said this while presenting the budget for the coming fiscal year 2083/84. A fintech marketplace is a digital platform that connects various financial service providers, such as banks, finance companies, insurance companies, digital wallets, and investment institutions, with their customers in one place.

Traditionally, a person had to visit different institutions separately to get a loan, insurance, savings account or investment related service, but fintech marketplaces provide all these options on a single platform. It allows customers to compare different financial products, choose the right service according to their needs and in many cases complete the online application and approval process.

In this way, fintech marketplaces make financial services faster, seamless, transparent and accessible.

The role of fintech marketplaces in the banking sector is very important. It will help banks not rely solely on traditional branch networks but also enable them to reach out to more customers digitally. Fintech platforms make credit assessment and risk management more efficient by analyzing customers’ financial data, transaction history, and digital activity.

This leads to a faster loan approval process, lower operating costs, and a better customer experience. In addition, the availability of services of multiple banks and financial institutions on a single platform increases competition, which motivates to improve service quality and provide customers with more profitable options. The fintech marketplace also contributes a lot to financial inclusion. People in rural areas or small businesses with less access to banking can access financial services through mobile phones and the internet.

It also helps to integrate people who are outside the traditional banking system into the formal financial system. However, its success requires special attention to aspects such as cybersecurity, data privacy, regulatory compliance, and customer trust. Overall, fintech marketplace is an important part of modern banking system which is making the relationship between banks, financial institutions and customers more effective and accessible through digital technology.
