Kathmandu. The import of smartphones in Nepal has been increasing steadily. According to the statistics of the Department of Customs, smartphones worth Rs 43.45 billion have been imported from Nepal in the first 11 months of the current fiscal year. <\/p>\n
According to the statistics, 20,41,199 units of smartphones worth Rs 43.45 billion have been imported in Nepal till mid-June of the current fiscal year. In the same period of the last fiscal year, 19,75,513 units of smartphones worth Rs 32.08 billion were imported. <\/p>\n
The data shows that there has been a significant increase in smartphone imports in terms of value. Smartphone imports have increased by 35 percent in the current fiscal year compared to the previous year. In the month of May alone, 177,330 units of smartphones worth Rs 4.06 billion were imported. <\/p>\n
China is the main source of smartphone imports. According to the department, 1,710,910 units of smartphones worth Rs 32.84 billion have entered Nepal from China alone. <\/p>\n
A large part of the total imports are from Chinese products and brands of smartphones. Along with the import of smartphones, the government’s revenue collection has also increased. In the first 11 months of the current fiscal year, revenue of Rs 8.10 billion has been collected from the import of smartphones. <\/p>\n
Such revenue was Rs 5.98 billion in the same period of the previous FY. Entrepreneurs attribute the increase in import to smartphones to the increasing use of smartphones, attraction towards new technology and replacement of old equipment. Imports are expected to remain high in the coming months as demand for new models of smartphones increases in the market. <\/p>\n
